The authors describe the history of the judge’s robe in Judeo-Christian symbolism and ancient Roman traditions as a factor of social identification, dignity and sign of power, priestly office and the right to administer justice. The understanding of a judge’s robe as an official dress in the administration of justice in Ukrainian legal acts, in particular in the Law of Ukraine “On the judiciary and the status of judges” is presented in the text of the article. The symbolism of the colors of the judge’s robe was analyzed, indicating the main features of the judiciary and the requirements necessary to hold the office of a judge. The rules of robes worn by judges in Ukraine and in Poland is compared. It is proposed to extend the range of the ceremonies with the right to use a judge’s robe in Ukraine for the purpose of public legal education in the spirit of respect and trust to the court.
